Waterproofs--recommendations??

Its a bit like the thread about cool max t shirts. I think if you want good outdoor gear then go for a brand thats been doing it for years. I buy stihl saws but would buy a stihl clothing. Gore tex is good and ex army is cheap. I would pay for expensive goretex becasue the work we do gets it all dirty which ruins the breathability.

I have some North Face gear made of Hyvent material. Cheaper than gore tex but more importantly it can go in the was and be reproofed easily. Works well, and fits well too as it is designed for climbing in etc.

+1 on the 'invest in good stuff & i'll see you right for years' opinion.

Cheapo waterproof kit is almost always a false economy, it'll always let you down at some point!

It's bad enough for me having leaky kit on a snowboard or motorbike, and that's only ever for a few hours at a time - being out in it day in, day out, like you boys deserves better kit!

I have a Paramo velez smock from ebay for £70 new they are 140ish and its the best thing i ever bought it rains a lot in the South west and a bit of nik wax wash every now and again keeps it totally waterproof, light weight, wicks the sweat away and although a bit hot in midsummer its surprisingly tough.Páramo
