What kind of work did you have to do to the saw to let it run a bar that size?

Hi,

 

What size of bar can a Husqvarna 390xp run? 28 inch seems to be the max recommended but was wondering would it run a 36".

 

 

I'm running a 36" on my 385xp

 

My 390xp can run a 42"bar

 

 

I'm guessing it's very ported? Full comp or skip?

No, 3/8, it's cheaper and easier to obtain

Oh the Oregon bar code is 363rndd009 if you want it in 3/8 chain, but it's Stihl size (.063)

I will be using a Stihl chain for sure, I have priced a 390xp and it comes with a 20/24 or 28" bar, I already have a 24" so i thought of getting a 28" with it and getting 36" bar and chain on stand by for any big stuff.

Have you considered the 395xp, I find it an excellant all rounder for bigger stuff, I run between a 20" to 36" on mine and don't find the weight too bad for smaller stuff.

I used to have a 576xp which was a lovely saw too but perhaps not as good power to weight.

I run .404 on 36" and 3/8 on 28/30" on the 394/395's I have and 3/8 24" on the 385.

 

I actually like the .404 but possibly on a 390 I would err with 3/8 running a 36".
