it will be a heavy bugger at 8 foot. The yoke i built (ill get a picture) is designed for 1.2m billets with a bit of overhang. its mounted on a pallet ( i move it about on back of tractor and set of pallet forks) about 4 foot long. both ends are open so i can easily reach in and all the logs are accessible. find this the easiest method of retrieval. I work from the top of each cut stack as I unload and hand ball into trailer/ibc crates. As soon as I have to start bending down to reach sawn logs, I simply lift up the entire unit, and resume work at waist height once again.

Got myself sorted with 2 sleepers.

Do you 's recommend the upright retaining posts to be timber or box section steel?

Your help greatly appreciated

I would stick with wood for the uprights. As Rowan says use some coach screws to fix them on, also easy to undo if need to change an upright. If you have a mishap the worst you do is chew up a cheap bit of wood. With steel uprights you wreck a chain which aint cheap.

That's what I had in mind, what height would you recommend 3/4 foot for the uprights?

I would not put them above chest height for ease of loading and i don't like to use the power saw too high in case it kicks back which would ruin your day!

You should possibly put a bit of the material you used for the uprights between the uprights at bottom! this will give you a gap under the logs being sawn and it will let you know when you've cut through the logs, and should make the sleeper last a bit longer! Hope that makes sence
