Kretzschmaria on Lime?

Morning folks, had a look at a lime tree on friday that is showing signs of low vitality in the upper crown. It is loosing quite a lot of bark in the lower crown, has stem bleeds & has what i believe to be Kretzchmaria on the stem but none around the base. I would appreciate your thoughts & opinions. That doesn't look particularly like K. deusta to me - I think the dark areas are exudation points on the bark. You may have seen things that we can't tell on the photos though.

 

It could be the onset of honey fungus?

 

I suspect the stem wound and peeling bark is a result of an old physical wound to the lower stem. There is a roll of occluding reaction wood on the right hand side of the exposed sapwood - the fast-growing new wood material may be expanding quicker than the old bark around the wood causing it to peel off.

Looks like bleeding canker. The same one that affects chestnut.

Resembles Phytophthora cactorum

I don't see any signs of K. deusta here either. This could be a number if things from Armillaria to mechanical or chemical damage allowing for secondary infection. I agree that Pseudomonas syringae is also a possibility by the look of the black staining, does this tree happen to be near a water way by any chance?

Hi fellas, thanks for your replies. It isn't near any water. It is a back garden tree about 3 metres from a neighbouring property. Hi Andrew nice to see you on the forum. Hope you are well.

It could be a Phytophthora, that could be confirmed through testing.

If it is Phytophthora, could the tree recover from this? or will it just decline further? The owner would like to keep the tree if possible.
