Countryside = minimal policing, especially at night, from the horses mouth.

Recently stuff has been stolen in broad daylight from farms/yards (northumberland) when people are out at work, at night we hear EVERYTHING, dogs bark and we dont miss a strange vehicle, believe me any unknown faces and trucks on lanes get clocked and number plates written down and reported to police (who people personally know) by us and all our neighbours!

You are very visible in a rural area if you are not local, in a built up area you blend in and no one notices you...you'd be suprised how much CCTV there is nowadays, farmers are getting sick of all this thieving of stock and machines. . and will invest in cameras etc.

Hope this turns up, heard yesterday some gear nicked from saw mill near Hexham was found near Newcastle YES!!! maybe the same thieves?

nope was dismantling a sycamore for Tony in allendale when criss came by and mentioned he'd been with someone caled matty at sweet hope and my powers of deduction kicked in! sure we'll meet soon!

Sorry to hear about yet more kit going walkabout. I know exactly the mill you mean as I have traveled past it regularly. They must have taken a real risk to park up a truck on the roadside there.

 

A lot of the farms in our neighbourhood have been hit recently - trailers, quad bikes, landrovers and tools, etc. Next door had 2 quad bikes and a horse trailer taken. They had obviously been watching the place as they were taken during the day whilst everyone was out at the Mart. Most of the kit was thought to be going off to the north east initially. Apparently it is dumped in out of the way places until sold so that when the police visit the suspects there is nothing to be found on their premises.

 

Bill are you working for Tony at the Dale? I freelance for him on the outdoor activities side and have known Chris up at Sweethope for a good few years too.

well, i have done a couple days tree surgery for him.don't work for him regularly. i'm mostly a sculptor with a bit of tree work thrown in for good measure. only met chris the other day after he had been chiping at sweethope.

 

i'd like to get up and have a deeks at sweet hope at somepoint soon. sounds good here?

what sort of outdoor activity you do for him al?

All sorts of stuff really, climbing, canoeing, bushcraft, etc but my specialism is mine exploration using the old mines up at Nenthead and Garrigill. I have my own business and used to do the same sort of stuff but I have wound down that side of things to focus on training (first aid predominantly but also moving into work at height and other stuff) hence the freelance work for Tony & Linda.

If you like fishing .. Views have been slightly ruined by the turbines but its a nice spot.
