A couple of years back the company Steve and I were subbing to required CIS cards, so we duly trotted off to the HMRC to fill out the forms, and we were issued with TEMPORARY CIS. The reasoning behind this was that they were phasing them out at the end of OCT 2007, so as long as you applied prior to Oct 07, your details would be on their system. Now I dont know the state of play now, my card is past its expiry date, do we still have to have a card with photo ID? Generally I just show my old card to people and that seems to do.

I've just been asked to quote for site work and just wanted to check, before they say I dont have CIS or something.

Like you Andy, i used to have a card but it was some 7 or 8 years ago. Think it got binned years ago!

One of the builders i was speaking to the other day said the new type does not expire now like the old ones. Could be worth getting the new one anyway, then we have it!

Just got off the phone from the CIS helpline. So long as an application was in before 04/07, the details are on the HMRC database. CIS cards are no longer issued, nor have to be shown on site. Taxation is automatically adjusted at source (CIS 20%, non CIS 30%)
