I've been running my company for nearly 10 years now and noticed an interesting statistic earlier as I typed up the 4000th quote.

For the first 9 years I have been doing approx 1000 quotes a year give or take a few.

The last 1000 quotes have been done in just over a year, a sure sign the recession is ending??

No wonder I have been spending so much time in the office in the evenings!!!

If you are doing 1000 quotes a year shouldn't you be writing up your 10,000th quote?

Oops, what I meant to type (fingers are tired now!!) was a 1000 quotes every 3 years for the first 9 years, and then the last 1000 in just over 1 year.

How many invoices though, that is the real tell.

Ty

Seeing as you asked last invoice number is 2375, so around 60% conversion rate.

But I was trying to highlight that the number of quotes has gone up 3 fold in the last year, and was wondering if others had seen the same thing?

Not sure if it shows the change in economy as many lots of other factors, advertising, repeat customers etc.. What would be more interesting is then comparing conversion rates and advertising spend..

I have checked mine.. (not including council work) and not sure I have the time to look up my advertising spend. I might if others do to compare against.. My conversion rates seem pretty stable dropping a bit in 2010 2011? Pretty similar..

Year - Quotes - conversion rate

2014 - 500 - 0.6

2013 - 573 - 0.69

2012 - 501 - 0.64

2011 - 421 - 0.55

2010 - 458 - 0.57

2009 - 370 - 0.59

2008 - 298 - 0.63

2007 - 333 - 0.68

2006 - 278 - 0.67

2005 - 148 - 0.62

2004 - 95 - 0.64

Seems to have gone ballistic round here too.

Averaging 3-5 enquiries a day.

I had to move my game of golf on Sunday to fit in some quote visits.

My advertising is minimal now compared to when I started. Get a lot of repeat custom and word of mouth now after 10 years, nice place to be. I've heard before the first few years are the hardest until the repeats start coming, seems true for me.

Not sure I would move a game of golf to accommodate quotes though! ME time, and family time is important.

Our call rate has been nuts this year. We are averaging 30 a day.... Some days over 50! If you know any skilled guys who want to work in Vancouver, Canada tons of work here!
