I've met Robin Wood a couple of times and bought a knife off him. I like to do a bit of whittling and spoon carving and we use them in the kitchen when I make them.

they are dying out in general but i don't think wood turning belongs on that list. there are loads of us if you look around a bit. pole lathe turning i admit only 4-5 people in the country may be doing this.

There are plenty of hobby pole lathers in the country but I bet not many doing it as a craft to make a living at. Just as rake, besom, clog makers et al have virtually gone apart from hobbyists.

well i am a member of the hampshire craftsman coppice group and we still have members working full time. making hay rakes bessom brooms clothes pegs resurgent tent pegs as metal or plastic ones are banned from festivals and period drama need the real thing. so take the article with a pinch of salt just need people to buy more british wattle hurdles not imported crap.

those who make spars and faggots are busy the latter due to recent floods need new blood but were not dead just a endangered species. that needs protecting from becoming extinct
