Get the biggest heavyest lathe that you can afford. Small lathes are good but you quickly want to turn bigger items which becomes increasingly difficult.

Most woods can be turned green, you just have slow the drying out process. Burying it in the shaving from the bowl works well. Or make the sides thin enough to flex in the drying process. However when you make the sides too thin the bowl goes bang very suddenly !!!

bang on! in the shavings is good, they are also nice to buff up the work when any sanding is finnished on dry turnings.

mine has eight too, only showed 2 plates of 4 in the pic to give the idea,numskull me,but it was dark out there. they work well,but gently does it on the cuts or you can get a bit of 'flutter' going on.
