Hydrostats are pretty good. We have a mf8927x, i think, at home and its a good bit of kit. Basically a red terex.

Just be ware of merlo, nice machines, if used and maintained properly. Older ones used to use a radiator header tank with a rad cap on for the hydro drive oil. So as you can imagine i have seen a fair few with water in the hydro oil. Also i dont really like the merlo brakes, calipers seize up and its a fair fiddle.

I think there is or was a tidy looking massey on ebay. I did not know anything about massey telehandlers so did not pay much attention . The merlos look a bit quirky and italian. I seemed to remember they did not meet regulations because the hyd oil pipes ran through the cab. This also made them hot in the summer.

I am thinking a jcb 527-67 cheapish to buy basic to repair and the parts should be available for years. What do you think of the bobcat telehandlers ?

i believe the final reduction drives are prone to failure if not serviced regularly on the small jcbs and second hand parts are like rocking horse s*** so if possible check for wear

* * * JCB 526 S * YR 2007 * FARM SPECIAL LOADALL TELEHANDLER * * TRACTOR LOADER | eBay

these are very good simple machines they can take a lot of abuse and are easy to repair

we had a 3 stick version that was indestructable

or the john deere machines are just updated matbros built from stock parts so everything should be easy to get hold of

and kramer or claas scorpions are nice machines to drive and well built

I use a Manni 627 for most of my firewood work, have an Allbut log grab for the front.

It lifts 2 filled cubic meter bags of hardwood logs easily, have had about 4 cube of Ash + Syc trunks on the grab that have been felled for 18 months so fairly dry, thats about its limit.

Perkins engine but very fiddly to do anything to, pretty small fuel tank but a very handy bit of kit.

I like the 627 cab is low to ground so easy to jump in and out which I think is important in our job we dont travel miles with radio and air con its used around the yard to move bulk bags.

I think it will come down to finding something tidy in budget and close to home.
