thats completely different dean, not really sure what point your making:confused1:

Just that people sometimes see things that is out of their control that is bad and have to deal with it. Not trying to score points really John just pointing out that worse things happen and people are exposed to some horrific thing

Testcricket,

if we ALL followed the health and safety regs everyone would be pricing with the same costs! So yes we would still make money.:mad1:

I wouldnt worry about experienced skilled professionals making a choice to not have a rescue climber when there is a hell of a lot worse things going on that do effect competition.

Having no PL (I know its not law but should be!)

Having no EL

Using unskilled, untrained employees to do jobs they arent capable of.

Not having full PPE and/or not giving full PPE to employees.

Blagging customer.

Ripping customers off.

Damaging property then doing one.

Bad pruning practice.

No respect for other peoples property.

Bag mouthing reputable companies to try and win work.

Fly tipping.

Using stolen equipment

I could go on and on and on but I cant think of anything else atm :001_tongue:

But you get my pointless point :001_smile:

there are different levels of work and different levels of customers. if you want to hang about with the gutter level of customer that gives you loads of jip, haggles and uses gypos and doesnt care about quality, go for it. if you want to be super dooper health and safety and tick all boxes, then chase the appropriate contracts/customers where they dont entertain cowboys.

but by having suitably trained people and the right kit potentially peoples lives can be saved within our industry, i carry the kit and belive i have the ability to perform a rescue in many scenarios, ie the scenario from the comp this weekend of a climber unconcious on his acces line or of a climber injured on the edge of the canopy.

what do you think would happen if you were unconsious in the canopy with a guy on the ground incapable of performing a rescue

With this thread in my mind, I took a picture of our set up on a Beech job today.

This isn't a staged shot ftr.

Although we discuss around a secondary line on every Tree (which is part of our SSRA) we do not always install one.

The job was removing two side laterals that have become over exposed due to the Summer Limb drop from my thread yesterday, and are above a gate and pathway.

Tree is inundated with shot bracing and cavities, and will be removed later this year.

.

mmmmmm shiny kit!! :001_smile:

Quite simply, nothing, because I am careful not to be so careless as to get into being in a position where I can be knocked unconscious, chances of that senario happening are very very slim and if it did, there woould be very few climbers of competition standard able to rescue from a canopy edge.

I want to hear statistics, because I have never heard of this happening.

It's a bit like the carrying of first aid kits on harness's, it is a waste of a first aid kit. If you want to carry something useful you can actually use, carry a tournoque, thats the only thing you should need up a tree if injured, not sticky plasters and eye wash :001_smile:

Here we go again
