Blessing in disguise. Echo is in another (higher) league than Tanaka...

Not so, nothing wrong with Tanaka. I have sold many marques over the years and I have found Tanaka to have been consistantly the best in terms of build quality, reliability and after sales support.

Not that there is anything wrong with the Echo, but it is let down by spares support.

hi, been looking at a Honda UMK35ue for the same reason, a mate of mine has had an earlier model for years and compared to my Tanaka [which is great] it`s quiet, effortless in comparison and uses less fuel, cheers

have had hondas for nearly 7 years. have the latest umk435uc and hardly any vibes will do what it says it can YES its not as powerfull as the larger sthils or huskys but its 38cc engine. and being 4 stroke has the grunt will cut anything i want it to cut with 3mm string bramble3s grass, you name it will try saplings but pushing it a bit. also the bump feed on them are brill double cord up wind same way put them in slots in lid push back on to casing and away 30 second job to refill unlike the others a fiddle. i can go for a good hour on a fill and depending on job cord will last a morning without changing. at mo as so dry and warm going throught it quicker.

looked at getting a bigger machine but why the hondas does the job and half the price plus it has i believe 3 year warrenty on it. also no mixing. what can i say mine is allways available for having a go with have plenty of jobs to try it on before you decide if local. i use a husky pro harness with mine honda harness is good but husky is poles apart. do not know i have the strimmer on.

I didn't mean tanaka was rubbish but i think

Agree to disagree; plastics, fixtures, fittings of tanaka less substantial than Yamabiko/Kioritz. Sure they're pro grade. Echo blower I had was utter junk compared to the Tanaka I admit, long handled hedge cutters tho - we called then Tanackered whereas the echo - bliss.
