I know loads of pople on here will have D Day stories

This is mine

70 years ago today My dad was ferrying a dakota between two airbases on south coast

He said channel was absolutely full of boats so they went for a look and ended up over france

When flak come up they turned around and came home, and told no one where they had been....

Hope it wasn't just a story.....I like the idea of going to D Day " for a look"

My Dad who died two years ago, when he was in the army went in after D Day, through France, Europe and down to North Africa. Never really spoke about. Since his death I have discovered so much about his army years and photos he hid out the way from us. A lot of them don't talk about it. We all owe them a life time of gratitude. Must never forget.

20 years ago went to beaches on fiftieth anniversary

They had just opened museum in Caen

Some scary stuff

There was american guy at american beach talking to his wife about his dad who had landed there and had a very tough time .......

Dog man on shoots in Bala ( now dead) had landed and gone right through to germany

Said they stopped on banks of rheine ( I think that was river) and he was watching germans in greatcoats moving on the other side - he shot six

Next day theycrossed and he'd shot six kids - he couldn't tell. They were just guys in german greatcoats ......

I get a lump in my throat every year when I think about what the fallen did for us. Its too easy to take our freedom for granted, when they were brave enough to give everything they had and lost their lives.

Thank you just doesn't seem enough, but I still offer my gratitude and a promise to never forget.
