What GVW Arb Truck

I 've been looking at truck problem aswell , a decent tipper costs a lot and then you still have the problem of the chipper being narrower than the truck which reduces visibility of it when reversing so I've had the idea of mounting my quadchip ( turntable chipper ) on a truck and tow an Ifor tt105 for chip (which is more visible when towing ). anybody else done that ?

There are larger options than a mog and RB. If I was going for a single vehicle I'd probably go for an RB and accept a lack of payload.

 

Bythamboy, the way I see unless your chipper is easy to dismount you loose the utility of your truck. There used to be greenmech mounted on a truck on the bay, is that the sort of thing you were thinking of?

If you are at the stage where you have identified the need for a bigger truck its going to be a no brainer. A transit/chipper combo is a great tool for a tree surgeon but if your into a lot of tree removals and clearance work a truck will massively boost the profit margin on your work. All the time your running about emptying a small truck your guys on site are not being as productive as they could be or even worse they could be double handling material. Only you will know what size truck to go for but rest assured once you have it you will probably wonder why you did not do it sooner. Bowling trees over is the easy bit clearing them up and getting out of there quickly is where the money is made.

that one was on a merc sprinter and had a cyclone etc , no just remove the drawbar , axle etc and mount the rest from turntable ( 700KG ) upwards onto back of truck , leaving room for toolbox behind cab then tow trailer to carry 2 tonne ,

If you dont go mad and spend a fortune not long. I reckon these hook loaders are a good thing, a bin or two for chip and a bolstered flat bed that doubles up for moving plant/sticks would tick quite a few boxes in this game , throw in a hiab for a good measure.

 

Not suggesting this truck but something along these lines.

Mitsubishi do a 4x4 Canter in 7.5t there was one on ebay a while ago. Also there's plenty of 10/12/16t 4x4 tipper lorries about on there if that's what you require. But IMO for any serious off road work a lorry either won't fit or it's shear weight and or lack of ground clearance will likely get it stuck anyway so the landy would be the best tool for that. I totally agree with Bob, once I realised how much time we wasted messing about emptying small trucks and trailers and start to add it all up waiting for my O-license application to be processed is extremely frustrating!

Cheers guys. I was thinking of a Bedford TM with a hiab/atlas. Not too big, but good payload and enough off road ability. I've not considered a hook loader, but that certainly ticks the boxes for versatility. Do they tip chip out OK?

 

Billy, I'm going through the financial planning, I may pm you it comes to o licence application time. Can't say I'm looking forward to it, but its got to be done.

what ive never understood is why dont people have a isuzu grafter/ mitsubishi canter etc with a beavertail alu body and have a tracked chipper on that and tow a tt105 behind? large chip and weight carrier in the trailer and the payload on the truck should carry a tracked chipper legally? or not that easy???
