How can something be 40% dead? It's either dead or not; it can be in decline due to the root severance mentioned surely!

 

Without a TO sounds all a bit fishy....

if its that big 800 quid they will probably disappear half way thru the job and ask for payment to get diesel or summat thats what they do up our way

40% dead wood in the canopy ? Sounds like an ancient pollard ....

Yes I would of thought the tree would of decline worse if the roots were severed 12 years ago?

 

I did wonder that but I presume he meant dead in the canopy. It looks healthy all in leaf!

 

Yeh it's a big job, I wouldn't like to do it anyway everything will be in hand held bits and even then your over gardens that can't be accessed easily. Not much room to swing anything round!
