Steve,

Thanks, as they do say, a pitcure is worth a 1000 words.

Your 2 neatly summed it up for me.

And yes I was reckoning a new set is stonking good value, when compared to a "fresh" second hand genset, with an uncertain provenance.

And yes realistically about 5k +VAT(2nd hand)

PS

Ebay actually more useful for the links it provides back to reputable outfits, imho.

I was offered a 6cyl Iveco openset with 4800 hours on the clock, by Macgen.

Described to me as having 4000hrs and unfortunately ( I think) resprayed.

For £4000.00 + VAT.

I declined, but actually (and very strangly for me) established a certain rapport with the salesman, simply because I had by big black dote of a rescue Rottaador with me.

We talked dogs after I looked at and declined their overpriced? offering.

So fingers crossed be able to do business yet.

At least they are only 15 mile away.

cheers

m

I have heard of mac gen. There is some good knowledge around your part of the world due to FG Wilson turning out the apprentices. I have a 110 kva coming out shortly due to burnt out alternator. Sounds bad but you could spend 10k and have the same thing next day. It is approx 20 years old caterpillar ( re badged fg wilson ) it will make 3k at auction and needs 2k spent on new alternator. Has perkins phaser engine which I dont think has done mega hrs and you know the alternator is good for years especially if you keep the dirt and damp out.

A combination of sciaita (due to doing too much the previous weekend) and just plain "being down" (being manic/depressive or as is now described Bi-Polar)

Saw me spend most of this past weekend of absolutly magnificent weather in bed (and it was me birthday too!)

But got a bit done last night until I surrundered to the midges at 22:00 hrs.

Playing with my new (6 months ago) Magnetic Drill.

A Rotabroach Panther, proper magic that tool is.

Now need to source an invertor welder (but waiting until I get a Genset sussed, cos I ud might get a bigger one than our mains supply will drive)

Regards all.

PS

First GOT to finish the ensiute for the daughter before the end of June.

GULP!

And then put down about 10m by 8m of concrete before I put the shed roof over.

Ah proper HATE laying concrete.(As does my back!!)

Sorry to hear you are under the weather Marcus, know how you feel with the depression it is a never ending battle, brain says one thing body and real life as we get older another.

I try now to finish one wee bit at a time even though I fiddle about with lots of projects at one time.

All the best ,

Gav
