zipline - swinging limbs

I like the little well timed flick of the line on the first few bits to hop the wall, guess you need a well built groundy to get the best from this system but already planning where I can use this slight mod on how I normally rig a zip on upcoming jobs.

Thanks reg, always an education.

Nice use of the rope by Bob…. not been in a situation that requires it, but i'm sure something will come along:thumbup1:

Always good when someone shares their tricks, never seen anyone do that on a zip, simple when you know….. and cheaper than a fence or wall, thanks for an informative video!

Hey Reg

Nice vid & good advice mate. Went blind into two jobs this past week that turned out to lend themselves ideally to zipline removal. I found that controlling the initial movement of the limb could be achieved really well by employing only a directed backcut so that the MA in the zipline pulling on the limb could orient in line with the zip before final severance. Obviously this is only possible with fibrous timbers but does work very well.

If there are other trees available then zipping can offer more possibilites by using them as rig poles.

Yeah good point nod, that I failed to mention.... Keeping the limb attached while it changes direction. Like anything it takes practice and familiarity. But you're always looking for it there onwards. Even when we do conventional rigging/lowering....its easy enough to switch by locking off one end of the rigging line to the mid or base of the tree and use the other part of the line to zip stuff out if it makes sense, as the high point is already in place....and then switch back when it suits.

Cheers for the tips, I can see how good positioning of the sling can make a world of difference with steering limbs as you cut them. I think my main problem was lack of tension on the line. Did have a 3:1 system and a portawrap though though but not everyone I work with is comfortable with these bits of kit. What do you mean by going in blind Nod?
