Tipping trailer 2014 8x5

Just made the deal on a new Graham Edwards 8x5 with high mesh sides & spare wheel £2935 plus the dreaded ifor wanted £3200 ish plus vat

Bateson around £3-32000 plus vat

Lead time about a month,

Can't wait to start chipping into a tipper 👍

We went for the tt3017 with cage sides and plant ramps, pulls lovely behind the landy. Although we mainly use it for timber, or dragging the chipper to jobs further away (saves 2 vehicles towing) we have used it for chipping into, and it's fine.ImageUploadedByArbtalk1400564582.228341.jpg.1d1f0f06068291f49e9864ff7dc5c929.jpg

Hey Josh you pays your money and you take your choice! sound like you got a good deal but I think the main point though is the chipping into the trailer we have been using this system for about 4 years now, and opted for the old Ifor tt85g bought new from gt towing it was in stock and available for immediate collection we use it behind a shogun also being an 8X5 is about the same width as the car and is great for both log deliveries and our tree surgery where as you can get right to where you need to chip or tip logs "access prevailing of course" either leaving the trailer on site subject to being secure or just pop back and get the chipper also another point is the weight carrying issue, we can carry up to 1.9 tonnes legally even if the shogun is fully loaded you are still talking 1.4 to 1.5 tonnes of legal weight carrying something I think the Crew cab guys might be interested in as you are looking at about as little as a half tonne capacity in those transits for us it is a good working system

Do you jut chip straight into that trailer or do you ever use chip boards? I was thinking of cladding the high sides with thin galv sheeting and adding a half roof to keep the Sita as clean as possible

Hello Josh

 

We usually just wrap around a tarpaulin and clip to the sides when the trailer is getting full we just fold back and attach the tarpaulin to create a half style roof to get a well full load in/ at some point I will get a custom made tarpaulin and frame/ this photo though is without but your idea about the thin sheeting and adding a half roof is a great idea

Do you have any idea what the chip wats full to the brim?

The weight I can carry on mine when it arrives is 1.5 tonnes, how heavy do you think the chip is?

I think you will be well under your limit with woodchip best thing to do Josh is load her up and take to your local weigh bridge/I did this when we first got our trailer we were choka with fresh felled hornbeam cord and I was thinking I would be well over but it only weighed in at 1.2 tonnes best for peace of mind and keeping it legal and all that!
