Just give everything a basic clean and it should be fine

I just checked in a northface bag with harness hardware and two ropes

No questions asked and I'm doing it all again in September

Good luck

clean your kit, new boots and trousers if you can afford it. also worth it on account of the stupid price of stuff over here. 180 quid boots, 800 dollars here :S when the immigration dude saw me with brand spanka boots and trousers didnt even look over the rest of my kit dont bother taking ropes, unless your super fussy, employer should provide, i've swapped crews twice and got all that i wanted from both set ups. check Buy online and sell with NZ's #1 auction & classifieds site | Trade Me for jobs search under aborist. if your heading to south island, brush up on your german if your after picking up the chickas.

Must admit nver looked at chainsaw gear but outdoor gear in general is mega dear. Any decent waterproofs are sillly money even the NZ brands.

Ging why german in Sth Isle? Apart from in Queenstown backpacker scene never met a german over there.

I've spent a bit of time there and never even heard of many german immigrants lots of Jocks, like a home frae home over there, scenery is very similar

$800 quid boots? Really? You can buy boots from Treetools for around 5-600 bucks and a set of waterproofs from NZ safety for about $100 or 50 quid. Yeesh, do a bit of research. If you're working you don't need the flashiest waterproofs, just something that does the job.

Prices have gone up. Live in the city and stuff does get expensive but other stuff compensates. You are right in that the employer should he providing wet weather gear, steel toe caps and chainsaw gear along with ropes and climbing gear. Just depends if you want bling and who you're working for.

I was there is 99.

Everything was dirt cheap, especially outdoor clothing.

I brought an 019t back in my rucksack. £120 it cost, was £400 back home.

$3.2 dollars to the £ helped .

2:1 now Stephen so not quite as good as it was but great if you're buying from overseas. Just brought in a $700 tripod from the US for $500.

Haha German isn't widely spoken here at all but seem plenty of German backpackers, specially in qtown! We seemed to attract German backpackers while travelling round the South Island... Tree stuff is real exspencive here and the wages are average you'll be earning similar to the uk if you work it out like that but in my experience so far it's a much more chilled out working enviourment...

Enjoy whatever!
