BY the way, can anyone think of a better way for BS to finance its functions? I have long wondered about this but can't think of a solution.

We looked into whether we could have copies of both standards on annual license here at Arbtalk (perhaps paid for by a modest membership contributution)

But BSI were not too keen on the idea :001_rolleyes:

I was told recently that Jeremy Barrell, who was involved in writing BS8545:2014 Trees: from nursery to independence in the landscape – Recommendations, was complaining that the message just wasn't getting out there to the people who matter...

At collage recently we had a straw poll as to who had copies of BS5837 or any of the planting ones, those from a contracting background did but surprisingly no-one from Local Authorities did. Maybe not indicative of the situation countrywide.

We always have had 3998 and 5837.?

I think you are getting confused with the planting standards gaz?

Not so - there are numerous British Standards relating to young trees, including the most recent BS8545 that bbtgaz refers to. Others include BS3936 (several parts) and BS4043 (two parts).
