The deer was finished of with a swift nick across her neck, and as for a valid reason for a machete..... It's part of my kit and is used sometimes daily sometimes once a month but it's always in the vehicle, I also had a "hand made axe like tool.... Possibly for butchery" (there words) which was an elwell bill hook lol

Get legal advice. If you have legal cover on your home or motor insurance, you may find the wording will allow you to use that. If not, talk to your local CAB or see if your local university has a law school that has a pro bono advice set up.It sounds to me as though the HR section of your employer's concern is shaky on disciplinary matters. A suspension of 3 months is highly irregular for starters, unless your dismissal is as a result of criminal conviction?

So if you where a climber and you carried a knife in case you got into difficulties/tangled up a tree and it wasn't "company issued equipment" what then? Would they sack you for saving your own skin?

As said theres 2 sides to every story etc tho.

I will be first to admit tho theres a knife in all 3 of my vehicles. Yes theyve "coup de graced" a few deer along the way but they cut lots more sheep out of thick bramble, cut the seatbelt from a girl of a rolled car on its roof at 5am, cut countless bales of hay, etc down to sharpening pencils or cutting food.

Nope no conviction. I'm a union rep so have got legal team waiting in the wings ready for appeal, then tribunal. I haven't had a single clear answer as to why or how they've come to this decision only as far as "I've been instructed by hr"

The bit I can't figure out is why it's taken so long for it to become an issue? As said my gears been there for years, it's not hidden and anyone can and does use it...... But now they don't like it?
