Feather edge fence issues!

Hiya.

 

I recently put up a feather edge fence for a customer. It now seems that the boards are warping and both she and I are not happy! The only thing I can put this down to is that the boards have dried out too quickly in the hot weather we have been getting recently!? Any one else had this issue? Any advice would be appreciated! I'm going to have a word with my supplier as the boards are stored outside and are always wet, this could have contributed to them drying too quick and warping. Apart from that I'm a bit lost on what to do....!

What size thickness are the boards? Also I find narrowerer boards a bit better. I think all feather edge will slightly warp to an extent on hot weather- but if the boards are cupping I agree it doesn't look good. Were the boards wet when you picked them up?

Ive recently put some in for me and my neighbour. Ours have warped a fair bit but i put that down to them drying out fast in direct sunlight as our neighbours that were in the shade are fine!

I wonder whether the cost of timber is making them cut more from a log or possibly not turning when milling so you end up cutting quickly but badly if that makes sense.

Just out of interest, what rails and rail spacings have you used?

What height of fence? How many rails ? How much overlap? Boards will warp slightly in direct sunlight but if your using the correct number of rails and overlapping properly it should hardly be noticeable !

Mine are 6x6 panels with 1 inch overlap and 4 rails, already made up.

I can't remember the thickness, I got them from Jewsons. They were wet when I picked them up as they were stored outside. I put a 6" gravel board at the bottom and the overall height was 1.8m. The boards were cut to 1650mm. I used 3 rails, one at the top, middle and bottom. I put one at the top to try and stop the boards warping......! Lol! I'm not sure what to do, the only thing I can think of is to put in 2 more rails to try and pull the boards back??
