Greetings from Jutland.

 

I'm a carpenter and general loafer, specialising in the repair of historic timber framed buildings and mill up my own Oak on a Logosol M8 with a Stihl 880. I'm currently working my way through a crumbly old farmhouse that we purchased about 7 years ago and we moved from Somerset to central Jutland about 5 years ago.

 

I have two small coppice, one of birch and the other of Hazel and Beech and do a bit of hedge laying on my own property. I'm currently thinking of getting a Logosol 3 phase bandsaw for cutting boards and reducing the amount of sawdust I make with the M8.

 

I'm interested in setting up a business milling wide board Oak and Scots Pine for flooring and bent Oak timber for framing, so I'm keen to hear of anyones experiences of that.

 

I can source standing timber from the local state run plantations at about £15 cubic meter in the round for Oak if I fell it myself. I can't see it making me rich, but I should have a bit of fun in the process and get to heat and repair my house for free. It's also nice to know where your timber comes from and how many miles it has clocked up from forest to mill.

 

I also frame the odd gable and install them locally. I studied timber building conservation at The Weald and Downland Museum about 8 years ago, and thoroughly recommend it if that's your bag.

I joined, and am here, purely for research purposes. I heard a rumor that Brit arborists wear funny pants while climbing, and wanted to see for myself. So, if you wear funny pants with sparkling bits and rainbow suspenders while climbing, I want to see the pictures.

Thought I'd register so I can pick up tips and tricks mainly in the 'Firewood Wood' forum though.....

 

Brief description....

 

I work on an arable farm and a few years ago, we started selling the odd bag of logs and kindling.

 

Fast forward to September this year, and we've gone from chainsaw and tractor mounted splitter to a processor!

 

Don't know what else to say except for HELLO!!

Instead of going and downing a few swift ones, I find myself registering for arbtalk (I know, saddo!).

 

Been lurking here a while, but not in the trade. I have a smallholding near Bicester and do all my own cutting, other than stuff that needs skill or climbing, for which I use Shawn & Charlie at North Bucks.

 

I've been on the scrounge for local timber for a couple of years and now have a stable full of cut n split ready for the 3 log burners. We're big on log burners 'round here!

Good evening,

 

Been lurking here for a while and have found the forum very interesting, learning loads.

 

We've a small forestry planted and also maintain the farm here at home.

 

I also try to keep the log burner fed, using a lot of the blown over trees in the farm after all the storms here! I cut all my own timber and am in the market for a handy chipper at the moment.

 

Looking forward to learning loads more!
