greetings again, my XP is hard to start after i blew it out with the airline recently, when it starts it races off on a high idle speed. I have removed and opened up both end of the carb and blew it out, inspected the diaphram which looked ok (i fitted a carb kit about 1 year ago), i fitted a new spark plug. Checked the hoses for splits and made sure any breather holes were not blocked. I tried to tune the saw using the owners handbook for reference but it has made little difference and i cannot get the saw to idle properly. My carb has the movement limiters in place, is it worth removing these and starting the tune up process all over again in a bid to cure the problems or should i fit a carb kit and see what happens ? thank yew in advance:thumbup:

You may have an air leak somewhere making it run lean which would make it hard to start but run fast when it eventually does start ....possibly ? :001_smile:

Apart from what others have said - if it has an automatic decomp then these often play up and also make sure the throttle linkage isn't sticking somewhere - simplest thing to do is to fire it up with the top cover off and push the carb throttle arm to shut the throttle to see if it lowers the revs.

Cutting the limiters off is only for the experienced - if the idle screw is adjusted correctly and the saw still races, it sounds like an air leak - typically the impulse hose and the impulse connector on the inlet manifold give issues.

Other thing worth a look at is to make sure the manifold clamp is still clamped correctly.
