which felling cut

Been ask to fell some trees the company are going to be holding the tree with a grab whilst i put in the cut.Not worked in this way before so what type of cut would you all recommend.Nothing to big max dia is about 14'' few firs and some limes.

Fell? or dismantle?

If you are dismantling and lifting the lump off with the grab I would try and chase through in a single cut, this way you can feel the tension and compression which will give you an idea where its going to go when it pops off, if you pinch the saw you can get the operator to shift it a little.

If you are felling and pushing with the grab then use a normal felling cut.

Being a machine driver and using grabs it's the best IMO. Then the driver just gives it a wiggle with the grab and off it comes. Also means you can cut and get clear of it with ease.

 

An operator will do his job with the grab, but I would never trust a machine they are always a weak point with any operation. Just need a hose to burst just at the wrong time. Or the tree to be too heavy and over it goes.
