After many years of loyal service, my ms440 has blown up, and needs replacing.

Looking at the spec, both 441 & 460 are the same weight but the 441 has less power but cheaper & lower vibrations and emissions.

However I want to be able to run it all day with a 25''- 30'' if needed, so the 460 looks to be the favorite. I already have a 660 & 880 but like the maneuverability of the 440 in the tree. Any one got any 1st hand experience to compare ?

I love my 441, low vibes, very frugal on fuel, but I wouldnt run it with more than a 25" bar. I find its happiest with 20", but will run 25 when required.

I think you will find the 460 more suited to your needs. What bar did you run on the 440?

why not consider a husky 372? been a stihl man 20 years, picked up a spanking 372 for 559 quid, took it up the yard today for some light logging to break it in and sure enough it rattled itself to bits(will they ever learn?) 460 hands down for me

For regular use of a 30" the 460, generally a good saw by all acounts.

As general day to day saw the 441, as has been said the 441 is hapiest with a 20".

Thanks for your comments, my old saw was the 044 and will be missed for its power to weight performance, I did on occasion use a 30'' bar and it threw the chain round no problem, but it has blown up, 10-12 years later.

I've gone for the ms460 and will let you know how it goes ones I've run it in (3tanks on 3/4 revs).

I have an Alpina pro700, which I got in a swap about 10 years ago and keep thinking it will go one day, if and when it does I'll try a Makita, but the yellow peril had never let me down even when run with no mix (by mistake, 8years ago and blew up two ms200T's)
