Hi does anyone have any experiences with honda clone engine?

I've managed to snap my conrod on my stump grinder engine, its a gx390 engine and its the 2nd time its snapped.

1st time it went about a year ago i rebuild whole engine with a new crank, conrod and piston & rings etc with after market parts for around £200.

its snapped again and its scored the crank so im not going to bother repairing it this time and going to just replace the engine but wondered if anyone rates the copy engines? as can get 1 for £200 compared to £500 for a honda one?

Regards Simon

I've got a 16hp 600ish cc single cylinder Launtop engine on an old entec chipper that works just fine, nice and powerful does the job without issue. I was a bit doubtful so bought the pull start one. The pull start mechanism broke within a day or two as its just not man enough(it takes some pulling) so I replaced that with an old genuine honda pull start and its fine! If I bought another I might splash out on an electric start version though!!

Check out my thread "FAO White Noise" and "Big T`s First Chipper Refurb Thread" in the large equipment section. Both me and Paul (white noise) have firred the 16hp Launtop engines to our chippers and they work fine, really impressed considering the price!

Over tightening the belts on the main pulley can and will cause this problem .

As Big T stated both he and I have put a 16hp clone engine on our chippers .It has been quite an amazing conversion considering the price . My copy engine has done easily 12hrs or chipping and not missed a beat . Recoil start is a tad flimsy but as said before the genuine Honda fits as does 99% of there parts .

thanks for replys, just been looking on ebay and they have a 16hp lunatop on there as well as a 13hp one, would the bigger one be a straight forward swap or would it be easer sticking to a 13hp one?

I think aslong as the shaft diameter is the same as the one you have (so that you can fit your pulley etc on it) then there shouldnt be a prob!
