I had a mate in 80's who got loads of shooting between m6 and manchester by knocking on doors and being polite

He got one large estate who were concerned about claims from tenants re vermin who justgave him permission to shoot over literally 1000's acres

He shot pretty much full time

Not pretty area but loads of geese, duck, pigeon, partridge etc

I'm amazed no one ever knocks on my door to just ask .....

s'cos ya live way up on top of a mountain !

Geese, Duck and Partridge don't usually come under the heading of vermin. Partridge season is September to February 1st.

They classed pigeon and geese (!) as vermin

He got rest thrown in ....

I used to shoot on Astley Moss where they grow celery carrots etc

They wanted every hare shot but eave the foxes (!)

Hares eat carrots and celery

Foxes eat hares

Vermin depends on your viewpoint

He had fabulous but ugly shoot for free .......

am i a timber fairy???

if i hear a chainsaw in my area i always walk up and have a look.

if the tree is big enough i'd like some for next winter, if the tree surgeon is still cutting i wait till they stop and kindly ask whats happening to the wood.

if they are taking it i ask if i can have a few lumps dropped off on the drive but if they are leaving it for the client then i knock on the door.

you don't always get a nice answer but surely this is the correct way to go about things.

if i think its worth it i'll offer to turn them an item from a nice looking bit rather than it go up in flames.
