Both hands above the Zz...pull the rope into the device and as long as you have enough rope weight below you it will self tend...the higher up you go the easier it becomes.Use the zz with a pulleysaver and it becomes even easier! Bodythrusting is not needed with this device....if you are finding the technique difficult at first, use a pantin to help you go up!

Got a question for all you zz users.....when using mine today on a body thrust back up to of tree as it was a relatively short distance It was noted by some kind younger chap that I was only pulling the tail to move the zz up the rope he seemed to think this was bad????

and promptly to me I should pull above the zz and adjust slack after with tail...

am I really doing a bad thing??? It seemed quicker and easier

Cheers Matty:thumbup1:

I alway pull above, its self tending ability of the ZZ is its main advantage.

To be truthful silky I think I realised my mistake when you mention pulley saver earlier,

The answer is yes normally....but didn't on the oak today as it was a large split limb removal at 1.30 so wanted to get up and beat it off asap. Maybe should have gone old school as the apprentice calls it.

Friction saver from now on:001_rolleyes:

Cheers Matty :thumbup1:

Or you could introduce a tape sling between you and the ZZ for long ascents and fly up the tree by just pulling on the tail of the rope with both hands.

Many years ago I used to climb on the sports jack which is the same as the lock jack but has a tape sling built in and it was brilliant, I then moved to the lock jack and used a tape sling of my own which I could detach easily when not needed and now do the same with the ZZ.

I think the ZZ is better with the sling
