Tree ident

Looking to do a tree identification course. Anyone know where is good to go in the southwest area??

I have no idea if any one runs courses, but there are plenty of good books, also loads on the internet , and national trust and other large collections usually have most of their plants labelled or I am sure there are plenty of Arbs on here will let you work for free all day carrying Leylandii out of gardens so you know exactly what it looks like and will never forget it !! lol

Arboretums well labelled are a good place for learning to identify new species, as above comment states.

Good garden centres too! Take a book, photos of bark and buds, take leaves when in leaf then take the lot home and ident them yourself. It's a good learning process and you pick up nuances in trees that you will then never forget.

Cheers guys;) I'm already dragging brash all day and have a basic Knowledge but was thinking of maybe upping my understanding of tree science and I figured a tree ident course/class would point me in the right direction!! It's one thing cutting a tree but understanding the tree and how it grows, when and how it can be cut is another:)

Anyhow, thanks for the comments and I will start with a garden centre and a good tree book and take it from there.
