Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone in the Essex area splice ropes? Have an oldish second line which I'd like to get spliced. Just throwing it out there.

Cheers

Ben

I do, but not used rope if I can avoid it, any dirt works it's way into the fibres and makes splicing extremely difficult. Can be done, but it's not much fun.

Yeah, I mean it's been machine washed, got nicked a while back so had to cut the splice off. But it's pretty thoroughly cleaned. Only used a couple times.

you can splice a rope when it has been used, but only the other end, it generally not been loaded so the fibres, strands are still nice and loose, you shouldnt be splicing the other end again. If you have a spare rope, learn how to splice, very useful, and it is not complicated.

Didn't know that Arnold. Do you have any research from the manufacturers regarding this. I have cut splices off and respliced the same end before, yeah the usual problems with used rope but still doable.

I must admit though that I do the other end most of the time as it is cleaner and usually easier.

Cheers.
