Trying to get an old 60's Stihl 08S working

Hi.

I've recently inherited an old Stihl 08S which was a non-runner but has spark, compression but wasnt getting fuel so took carb apart and replaced the diaphragms and gaskets as the old ones were manky and hard but still cant get it to run.

It starts and just about idles with the throttle locked to half position but wont rev and just dies when the throttle is taken off lock.

I've tried adjusting the mixture with it ticking over but nothing helps.

Just wondering if you had any idea on what might possibly be wrong?

The carb is clean as is the fuel pickup filter and air filter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Richy.

Hi, what exactly is the meter arm?

It's on the bench thread.

It the meter arm and valve that allows the flow of fuel around the carb. If this becomes blocked it will not allow fuel to flow or if the hieght is wrong it will not allow enough fuel to get through. Or too much fuel.

Something like below. :thumbup1:

Make sure the L & H are one turn out, the carb is reassembled correctly, ht lead is through the right hole (if it's not, it can strain it and the spark will earth), check the engine timing, as this can be out if it's the earlier electronic ignition and also if it's points!
