Using my new lockjack

A cheat that you can use for ultra ease of descent is to clip a karibiner somewhere below your lockjack...depending on what harness you use would depend where it clipped...perhaps to your legloop. Run the tail of the rope through this krab then use it to belay yourself.

 

Downside is, it's a cheat so you will actually hinder yourself from gaining the experience needed to master sole descent on the lockjack

That's a useful tip cheers pal, been 5 years climbing with a prussic, now I have a lockjack I'm well happy, don't no how I have done the jobs with out a lockjack lol.

Hold the toggle between your first two fingers and wrap your other two fingers gently around your rope. This will give you more feel.

Rapid descents are for pimps and video 'heroes'. Why would you want to wear out your gear prematurely?!

Just give it time, you'd have the same issues if you'd bought an SJ.

 

So no, you shouldn't have bought an SJ, you should have bought a Hitch Hiker.

Nothing more fun than descending from the tree at full speed

Defiantly worth getting a rope guide and a thinner tightly woven line will help with tending

Got to disagree with that, fast descending is often very useful for getting where you want to be, either out to the end of long lower limbs or getting over obstacles on the ground when you've finished.

I have and use both and personally I prefer the sj but know loads of folk that prefer the lock jack.

I have leant them both out and most seem to end up going for the Lj

I also think if you tried the lock jack first you would prefer it and same with the sj

Very similar in a lot of ways IMO
