New 130 Defender

My tdci 90 xs has been a beauty (so far touch wood!)

Been holding off taking the plunge on a new 130 defender to replace the old td5 130, but inspite of the iva nightmare I think im going to crack on anyway.

I just resent the idea of paying for it for 3-4 months but not having the use of it!

Hi pete

I know what you mean. Bought a 08 plate second hand and it broke down on the way home. Spent £1200 on repairs and shipping cost back to seller and it was still broke! That then made me spend the money for a split new one. I want a vehicle for the long term as my plough is vehicle specific so it had to be a defender and I thought buy new and get the warranty

You don't pay for the defender until its taxed and that cant happen till after the iva. I can put you in touch with my dealer and my body building company as they doing a cracking job for me.. hang off for a couple of weeks till I get the approval process for land rover started and I will keep you posted

Right so I went ahead and ordered the 130 chassis. I've been told it could be ready by 20th may (originally warned it could have been sept/oct!!).

Now to finalise some plans for the tipper/chip box and accessories!!

Fingers crossed it won't be too much of a nightmare to get this project completed!

What is a 130 like to drive around town in?

I mean, is it user friendly enough to use for driving around on Saturday mornings doing quotes or would a pickup be better for that?

Sent with my iPhone from me, to you!

My td5 130 tipper is a good old workhorse which I have no problem driving round for quotes and the odd pop down the shops. But the turning circle of an oil tanker doesn't help with tight manoeuvres!!

The new defenders are much more refined (for a defender that is!!) inside making it a more pleasant experience comfort wise.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well the defender left the dealer yesterday and is now down at the body shop. Work will be starting today on the conversion. Its been a long slog but its not as hard as you may think and now I have some knowledge it should have been quicker than it was till now!! (
