i am looking to do a bit of carving and i want a 12" quarter tip bar to run 3/8 lo profile.

am i better buying an oregon sculptor or forking out extra for sugihara?

also, i have been offered a little efco to use as it has a 3/8 sprocket, but i have husq 41, 61 281xp and 560xp and would like to gear up one of my own for carving, but the 61 is too heavy and i cant find 3/8 sprockets to fit the 41. what should i do?

thanks in advance.

have a word with Rob D, he owns and runs chainsawbars.co.uk knows his chains/bars/sprockets better than most. Wondering why you want a quarter tip and not a dime tip?

Sugi vars are not much more than oregon but better quality, i would go Sugi myself (in fact i just ordered 2 sugi bars from Rob)

good reason. As for the bar, its a case of which will last longer. Canon have a bit of a reputation for failing pretty quick. i guess it depends on whether you think you will like carving. if you do tehn i would go for the extra 30 quid. if you are not sure then go for teh cannon, get a years use out of it and then decide if you want to continue. contact Rob and get his unbiased opinion too

I've not tried sugi yet but cannon bars have led the field for many years and will out last other cheaper bars. Oregon will last if youre an occasional carver and don't try and do everything with it. The are really only for detail, block out and shape what you can with a standard bar.
