As far as refresher training goes it is only a strong recommendation by HSE that a semi professional user should be every 3 years ans a professional user should be every 5 years how ever you are best to check your insurance as you may well find it's void if your competency levels are not refreshed at the above timings.and yes fisa refresher is only for commercial forestry and the FC /FI will not accept lantra

unless you doing tree work for forestry commision i see no point in been fisa approved and does that mean that if you are doing ARB work at FC sites such as there vistor centres lantra and nptc chainsaw tickets would be void for that job and is it only cs30/31 or does it include cs39

A very good point and well worth checking...however I would hope not as it isn't mandatory. I guess it perhaps depends upon the individual circumstances.

As with many things complying with H&S and Regs etc whilst required for legal reasons, and to satisfy HSE/EA/VOSA etc., it's often the insurance industry who have greater controls / effects.

Good post.

Cheers..

Interestingly an FC employee summed this up at a recent HSE gig (coincidental) saying whilst cutting in the tree FISA doesn't apply but when on the ground it would...."therein lies madness."

I would hope, being pragmatic, provided your Lantra / C&Gs (NPTC) training is current, i.e. within the recommended 5 years, they would accept this...and your First Aid had '+F' of course.

It's not clear at the moment but having had a good few meetings it seems if we were contracted into to deal with Ariel work ie dismantle a tree then fell the stem our lantra/nptc units are fine as we are not undertaking commercial felling arb work on FC sites as far as I know will never have to be fisa as fisa is only commercial felling FC may want to see evidence of update or refresher training

I hope that helps

Why wont they except Lantra, Lantra & NPTC training is the industry standard for proving competence ?
