Which chain oil are you chaps using?

Quick survey?!

 

I've been on veg oil probably the last18 months , like the idea it's environmentally friendly & not harmful to breathe in.

 

Just wondering what other chaps are using ??

The cheapest I can find "proper bio chain oil" is Clarkes super tack bio @ £55 25l

My veg oil is around £25 for £25l

Using a can a day (approx) some times less some times more it works out including mix £208 a month for veg oil& mix

Or £280 for super tack &mix

 

(Based on stihl hp super oil & current rate of petrol @ £1.36l)

 

Question is do I carry on with the veg oil all be it a bit dry in the longest bars & the £72 a months adds up and I would have thought should easily cover any extra wear In bar & chains

Veg Oil for the last three years. Never had any problems. Don't understand why people use anything else!

Rapeseed oil; nothing but the best. ~£1 per L.

Not to mention the damage that can occur to those saws that are not serviced. I often see the cooling fins totally blocked with the glue from bio oil.

 

Cooling fins are there to cool, blocked ones not only prevent airflow, but effectively insulate the ally resulting in very poor heat conductivity from the cylinder to the air.

 

The result? Possible seizure, or baked crank seals, followed by lean seize.

...but if you're saving £70 per month then you can buy a new saw every year and have plenty of change.

 

I use Stihl bio which is expensive but I've had problems with the Oregon stuff turning into jelly. I use my saws infrequently, maybe twice per month, and often on sensitive sites like nature reserves etc.

I use mine every day so it add up I suppose so some for it some against it

Stihl stuff not sure which one just brought a 25l drum ages ago to save keep buying 5l ones
