A decent hiab combined with a MEWP would sort it, and you may well find it easier to get a hiab driver to work with you?

I think you have the wrong end of the stick, I'm not expecting to climb a tree with just a telehandler holding it up!! If it were to be stripped down to a pole with out the use of any lifting equipment a telehandler may be used to pull the pole back up into the root plate and then a mewp to dismantle the remaining stem. And as said maybe a lot easier to get hold of a rotating telehandler than a crane.

If you don't calculate the loading correctly, or if the telehandler looses traction, or a cable fails, that tree is going back into the roof with twice the force it did originally...

I wouldnt worry about damage to the roof, just dont put any new holes in the side of the house and you will be fine.

I can't really tell from the pics but it doesn't look like there is much of a root plate in the air... With the stem that far over it is not likely that you'll stand it back up.

 

I would be using a crane for sure. (Not to shamelessly plug my website...) but I have a log weight calculator on it. (Scroll down on the main page, it's on the left)

It is quite accurate. I usually add 10% for a safety margin, then also add weight for limbs. (Then work within the cranes SWL)

 

That will give you an idea of the size / type of crane you'd need.

 

If the crab can lift 5,000 lbs, and the calc gives you 4,600 lbs. get a bigger crane....

Cheers guys I think it'll all be pretty smooth. Seems like crane maybe a no go guy reckons unless I'm the appointed person they won't be able to do it. Maybe telehandler strip out tree and then use it to pull the stem upright.

Get a contract lift so the crane company use their own appointed person.

Think I'll try shopping around on crane companies the guy I spoke to said unless me the arborist is the appointed person he can't hire out the crane??

Yep, go with your instinct cos that crane company doesn't sound up to the job. Contract lift all the way.
