2 new chains for saw £30.00

2 new chains!? you should be able to cut them without wrecking your chain, the bolts are only located at certain points on the sleeper, just avoid these and you'll be fine, although you made need to re-sharpen once or twice.

You don't need to use a chainsaw really for that amount of cutting. A good hand saw will do just as good and also don't use polythene as a liner just use good landscape fabric and either pan head nail it to sleepers or use a staple gun. Also mix compost in with the soil. Your priceing is not to far out depends on how you going to lay firsts course of sleepers? Directly on to the soil or on a hard standing support? Either one will make a great difference to your overall price.

The trick I do sometimes if I think the client won't go for the job is to give them an email or a copy of the quote with the materials at 'cost' highlighted and labour separate...so they see just how little I am making out of their £400 quote!

 

That seams like a fair quote to me. I'd be charging £50 more labour and graded top soil is 26per ton cost up here.
