I have got several top handle saws. Use them a lot. Often on the ground. I bought them new from dealers. I am not a professional. Have no tickets or qualifications. Own my own wood and if i want to kill myself- that is my choice. No dealer asked me for any evidence of anything. Quite happy to sell me a saw!

can't remember when the rules changed on when certification was needed to buy a top handle from a dealer, depending on when you bought your saws it could be that suppliers weren't required to see the relevant ticket then?

A significant quote,

As a DIY'er you don't come under the remit of the HSE, although the agreement was (if memory serves) for all top handle sales.

Some retailers are less scrupulous than others

I don't see it a scrupulous or other wise . It is not a legal requirement . Its an agreement that's all . No one has to abide by it . Not sayiong its a bad thing or a good thing its just up to the dealer .

I walked into a husky dealer about 5 weeks ago and bought one, the lads know I working in forestry but never even questioned my qualifications

about time we recognised taking responsibilities for our own actions.

you can buy a chainsaw from any DIY store and not get questioned, why should eBay and a top handle be any different?

same could be said about any sharp saw, knife, chisel, plainer, chop saw or any power tool.

as long as what ever you sell is in good safe working order, you should have nothing to fear.

you take responsibilities for your own actions.

this country really boils my blood

stop being so bloody pathetic in trying to blame others

Well its not up to the retailer

The manufacturers agreed to a deal with the HSE and the dealers are bound to do as the manufacturer says or its bye bye franchise.
