mower fuel

ive read a few times on here that folks put 'old' fuel into their lawnmowers. would i br right in thinking that a 4 stroke mower will be ok running with fuel/2stroke mix?

Mine's probably had more two stoke mix through it than neat unleaded and it's never bothered it so far. Think it's about 8 years old now too.

Mower engines are more tolerant to old fuel than saws etc.

 

But there will be a lack of performance and starting may be impaired (compared with using fresh fuel)

 

If the mower has a Briggs Sprint engine then the answer is NO.

Are you just getting rid of some mixed petrol that you probably wont ever need? otherwise why would you want to put 2 stroke oil in your neat petrol? A bit of mix in your mower wont hurt it unless its the model that gardenkit mentioned

My 30 year old Suffolk Colt is OK on it - if the oil mix is a bit high, it needs a little choke all the time and you can get the air filter getting oily but it runs, it smokes, it cuts the grass:thumbup:

Its a briggs n stratton engine and its just to use up about 5 ltrs of 2 stroke mix. Maybe ill just add it in bit by bit to the fresh stuff so as its not 100% 2 stroke mix in the tank

I guess the whole subject is a little uncertain. How old is the OP's 'old fuel'?

 

Really old fuel, the stuff that stinks like old paint, should not be put in any engine, ever.

Only be concerned if its a "sprint" engine, thats the one with the fuel tank low on the RH side of the engine and the carb mounted on top.

 

These plastic carbs have a pumping diaphragm which gets distorted by stale fuel.

i,am drawn to know ah go on tell me why me being nosy why wont a sprint engine run on old fuel dying to know please tell

beat me to it thanks anyway i suppose same goes for anything with a prima bulb then
