Suitable uses for a huge old cedar?

Hope someone can tell me what the wood from a really big old Lebanese Cedar would be as useful for? I understand that cedar is good for both outdoor and indoor furniture (am thinking of maybe a couple of outdoor seats for long term use) but the tree is having to be felled because of its age (not diseased as far as we know, just in decline and starting to drop branches). Does the age of the wood affect its usefulness?

If we make seats we can choose to lie the trunk section down & simply cut the seat shape out (rustic look) , or have it "sliced" on site and made into something like a more conventional bench.

Any ideas for uses for the rest of it? (there will be a lot!) We are keen to keep as much as possible within the school grounds/buildings or use it for Tech projects.

Loads of uses, but many old cedars have softer/rotted wood in the centre unfortunately.

 

Why not make a shortlist of uses and put it to a vote by the kids? Add in the local rag doing a photoshoot, and of a replacement tree being planted- that's gotta be worth half a dozen Offsted points!

well you'll only know once its felled but if it's in good nick then it should be slabbed and used for a bench. the wood is perfect for outdoor furniture, delabodge uses it for his pub tables i think.

Where abouts is it?

I have been looking for a cedar of Lebanon log for some time. I have a lucas mill so milling on site would not be a problem. What diameter is it?

There is very big one uprooted near canterbury ickham its on news that has a load of good wood on it

Thanks for the ideas & info. We have contractors already to deal with the removal thanks John. Just want to ensure we make good use of it.
