tractor trailer reccomendations circa 8ton.

Looking for any opinions for the above.

I need a trailer for, moving large quantities of fencing materials to site, moving digger, transport soil/timber on site and other general use. So far I looked at the Fleming 8tonner about 5k but would need to get ramps made up. Or the herbst trailer plant/multipurpose which if yet to obtain a price from dealer but believe its nearer 8k. Plant Version Drop Side Trailer | | Lowloaders · Dump Trailers · Dump Loaders · Drop Side Trailers · Bale Trailers · Cattle Trailers | Herbst Machinery Ltd, Tyrone, Northern IrelandLowloaders · Dump Trailers · Dump Loaders · Drop Side Trailer

Any other reccomendations considered.

Thanks.

Don't know how widely available they are over or whether they'd have exactly what you're after but you just won't do any better than Kane.

I bought a new 14 tonne dump trailer off them a few years ago and worked it seriously hard for about 4 years when contracting and it never done anything but impress me, probably just about the best piece of new equipment I ever bought.

Also know lots of silage contractors running Kane trailers and they're pretty much flawless. If you get Noel on a good day he'll probably even sell you one directly.

I have heard that fleming aren't the best but as you probably know quality will cost you. Ideally I suppose a dropside would be more versatile as I have a five ton tipper fixed sides which I can load a 3t digger on but you cant swing it around in it which makes for hairy loading/unloading sometimes as its quite a climb! to be honest if your looking for something in the 6-8k budget my money would be on a good s/h beavertail for £4500 and a nice tipping trailer with the rest. Get a drawbar on your beavertail and tow your tipper to site behind it (empty of course!!). These multipurpose trailers imo are always a bit of a compromise and a beavertail with bolsters would be good for timber and will probably carry more weight. Ive got a lowloader and a couple of tippers and I would rather have the right trailer for the job.

Digger will only be in the 3-5 ton category, so nothing too big. The idea being I can use the trailer to move the digger to site and use the trailer as a bit if a dumper, moving stone soil timber etc. So on that basis I'm not not sure id benefit all that much purely from a beaver tail

I realise Fleming are more at the budget end of the spectrum, possibly fine for my use. But I'm only planing to buy one trailer of this kind in my life, so prefer to put a bit of money into it!

I do like the drop side appeal of the Herbst one, makes loading that much easier.

A few years ago I phoned the "contact" number provided on Kane's website.

About a 2nd hand Kane "Agribuggy"(Nissan Patrol based,if I recall)

One of the Kane bros answered.

He was more than helpful, happily answering my tyre-kicking questions.

I was seriously impressed that such a large firm was still run absolutly "hands-on" by the men who first started the Company.

And, yes most of our serious local Silage Contractors run Kane trailers.

Simply because they are correctly engineered, with hi-yield steel where appropriate, so to be as LIGHT as possible = more payload.

PS

I would be curious to know where the fleets of fresh 2nd hand Kane silage trailers go, our local contractors always appear to start each season with a brand new Kane trailer fleet.
