seems slow to me but you do save the cost of a processor.

Maybe, but think about how much time/handling it reduces compared to felling it, forwarding it, hauling it back to the yard to then be stacked, then moved again onto the processor deck, then the logs into the barn, then the bags on to the pick up for delivery.

This setup would be an ideal unit for hiring out to small woodland owners who want 1st thinning for firewood. It utilises minimum handling of the timber repeatedly, a most in efficient firewood production. Also it would be nice doing all the work in the woods, rather then in some bleak muddy timber processing yard. :thumbup1:

If you have accessible woods, non sensitive etc etc looks good.

I've gone smaller scale using a quad as a forwarder, load straight onto saw bench, crosscut, then either load or split as required and (usually) into m3 bags on flatbed and back to yard. You earn yr dinner though!

Reckon for 2 of us we could do 6+ bags a day easily and that is from standing. Ideal for our woods that are in a WIGS.

Nice little setup that. Yeah a quad base unit works well on the right site as well. Have you put any sort video clips of your woodland firewood operation together yet? You can't beat doing it all in the woods.

Cheers. Video eh........might have a go. Trouble at the moment is it's too wet to lead the wood, so everything is being manhandled to track-side to take to processor later on when and if it ever dries up a bit.

It is lovely coming home with clean bags and just lifting them off with the tractor. No mess.
