I used to do a bit of beach casting this time of year and pulled out the cod:lol:

 

Place the side cover on, and pull the saw over lightly to mesh the pulley with the flywheel pawls - check the springs on the flywheel pawls are OK.

hope this helps im baffled really am was an engineers for 6 years and its stumped me from what i can tell it looks like the lugs on the flywheel are stopping it from recoiling if that makes any sense

Did you take the recoil apart, removing the white rope rotor?

 

Perhaps you have a washer in the wrong place, when reassembling.

what try the washer underneath insted ill try tht is got to be something stupid and simple

 

I would think that the rotor is not sitting deep enough in the housing, causing it to bind on the flywheel.

Youve got the rope on the wrong way round. It should come out of the handle and form a straight line down, not across like it is.

That rope should be the other way. Anti clockwise.

 

Also check the pawls on the flywheel are free to move.
