i do find the spiderjack personally comes into its own on dismantles, but thats my personal opinion, i find the self tending has made my climbing a lot easier/faster since i crossed over from a hitch, but that might be just me, as everyone says its takes a good while to get used to a spiderjack compared to the knots, and the initial set up can be expensive, i.e smaller diameter rope (samson velocity is best) spiderjack with the mods and a good pulleysaver will cost you 100s, depends if you want to take that risk haha

People seem to get caught up in the 'which system is best' debate.

Whatever is quickest and easiest for the job in hand is best for me.

The SJ didn't suit my personal style, but I know plenty of climbers who go really well with it.

I want to have a play with some more techniques when it dries up a bit.

I'll let you know how I get on.

In July.

i would go hitch climber and pulleysaver first mate if the moneys tight

Even a hitch climber on a simple cambium saver is good place to start.

I would say owning a hitchclimber works out the same as a Spiderjack when I add up the cost of friction cord used over the year, although the initial purchase is cheaper.

Mr Bolam is bang on no point getting hung up what is the best system, look at what's out there and choose what you think is right for you, for me a Spiderjack is a step backwards for others it's the forwards.
