Hi Philip, I did not mean to sound flippant or dismissive with my original post. You say you had your flip line and lanyard around the pole which is good (2 points of attachment) and imo a good way to start, simple and basic. Perhaps have your main line as the second point of attachment, this is very common. Do make sure that you have your mainline on you at all times as this give you a connection to the ground and more importantly another form of rescue. Good luck. Have you been trained in cs38 & 39?

Ok so you've just dismantled your first pole, next time use a wire core or your lanyard and put your rope around the stem (similar to how you'd anchor on a branch prussik and krab) also make sure your rope is below your strop, if you cut your strop the rope will catch you.

Always use a rope you never know when you need it even if you need to send your saw down for fuel.

If you're starting out keep it simple until you've got the hang of it then buy more gear like the others have suggested if you feel the need too

Cinch with a million. Attach to line with a prussic below the prussic a figure 8 works for me

Take a look at this link , shows a running bowline using a figure 8 which is similar to what i use but i use a prussik below the figure 8 clipped into to my harness on my leg has a backup .

You should also consider a multiSAVER which basically just a light-weight adjustable cambium saver is considerably cheaper.
