France won mate

Not that you'd know going by the coverage afterwards!

Honestly, what is it about the English and sport. John Inver-bloody-dale sitting spouting afterwards about how England would take more pleasure from the game than France, how does that happen when they LOST?????

It was a great game of rugby from two great teams but come on, a bit of credit to the French, especially for their winning try which was an absolute stonker by any standards.

One good point from both matches was the lack of play stoppage due to having to reset the scrum.

When the Southern Hemisphere Tour was on last year, I stopped watching as the constant whistle blowing was killing the game, ended up watching the Rugby League World Cup instead which was far more enjoyable. (I say that as a RU purist BTW)

Have the rules changed again or are we seeing the Referee use a bit of common?

Think it was the latter. I agree that the stoppages in the tour were infuriating. It might also be the packs getting used to the new arrangements.

I notice that the ball still doesn't seem to have to be put into the scrum straight. I thought one of the main reasons for changing the scrum rules, apart from safety concerns, was to force a straight put in and get the hookers to earn their living. Dunno.

Brian Moor was explaining the new rules . I think they have to engage fully and bind with no shove / hit before the ball comes in .

It's called "passive engagement" to give it it's correct title, front rows engage and bind before the shove goes on the theory being that it's then more about the power of the shove itself as opposed to who could time the "hit" best over the past few seasons.

Refs were actually a bit slack on it this past weekend compared to how they've tightened up on things at club/provincial level, maybe they were giving the packs a game apiece to get used to each other before clamping down.

Usually allow one reset before at least a free kick to one side or the other.
