Thoughts on this sycamore please

Hi everyone. We'll it looks like its a sycamore after all. Around 20inch diameter trunk and between 30 to 40ft. So didn't strike me as mature as the ones behind but I could be wrong. Everything looked fine. Just was still unsure about all the scale as I can't say I've seen this amount throughout the entire tree before. I can only assume that it is a genetic characteristic as arborowen said as it looked healthy. More thoughts on the scale welcome.

35 posts! its a bit stressed, has some necroses in the canopy, probably had a bout of scale insect to boot. this would lead to early maturation in the bark, nothing unusual at all IMO.

 

a new build like this might also suggest the soil has been "manipulated" that too would cause stress and this kind of scaling early in bark maturations

Was there much dead wood or any die back when you visited?
