Sounds like the timing is very retarded. But what do I know.

 

In other news, Randy's finger ported 044 has arrived at my door step. I'll grab some pics tomorrow in day light.

 

Yup, quite agree, the coil alligns with the flywheel at around 15 -20 deg, same as a 026 but it may be firing at 15 deg instead of 30 deg so retarded by 15 deg.

 

There is no decomp on it and it isn't ripping the starter handle out of my hands like I would expect running 170psi on a pop up unbedded piston!

 

Just needs a bit more tlc!

She's arrived. The upper transfer ports inside looked huge from the exhaust port. Randy only removed whatever came apart with a t27 besides the jug, and then posted it as a 'parts saw'. Customs ignored it, so thanks for that. I was lazy and didn't want to tear her down, so I just threw the parts on for a pic.

 

 

 

If I had to, I would say she feels lighter than my old 2165 even with the full wrap and high discharge clutch cover. Randy says to peg her at 14,200 and go cutting. So we'll see. I have a 24" and 30" bar for her. I am curious to see how she pulls the 30.

Oh yeah. I was busy looking for a 440 or 044 in the UK, Germany, and Ireland for months. Nearly all I was seeing were beaters. When a good one came up, it was a non HD filter set up without the high discharge or wrap for silly money in any halfway decent condition. So when Randy put up a bunch of his personal saws for sale to finance his cattle side bidniss, I took interest. He told me it was heavily ported, recently fully rebuilt, and fully set up for felling work PNW style. What really had me was when he asked for £375. I jumped on it.

He had tha saw imported from one of the porters Stateside, they seem pretty common there!

Yeah. That particular wrap is a 'USA' Handlebar model(I think it's the guy's initials). He literally works out of his garage in Washington State somewhere. Madsens is the main supplier...when they have them in stock. The demand is silly for them in the PNW. It just happened to come with this saw.

I was fearing I would have to spend that 375 on a beater and then have to make it right, port it, and then get her set up for felling - so I was expecting 550 or more spent. This worked out well. Customs was the big gamble, though. But he had everything but the jug off of the saw. A bud was watching me put it all together and saying I looked like a kid at Christmas with a KNEX set.
